“AS IF a simple insinuation in the silence inrolled
ironically or the mystery hurled down howled out in some imminent swirl of
hilarity and horror hovers on the brink of the abyss without sprinkling it or
escaping and draws from it the soothing virgin sign AS IF” I feel like the
content in this passage definitely echoes the visual structure on the page. So
for example, “in the silence”, is on the side of the page by itself. Whereas
“the mystery/hurled down/hurled out” is on the side of the page with many words,
except as the words are written they fall down the page as though they are
being hurled down and out. Also I feel as thought the nautical theme in the
poem is shown in the way the poem flows between each of the pages but also the
abyss theme can be shown in the way that the words cut off on the page. Also
the abyss has a mysterious edge, which I think the poem conveys somewhat.
